Features & quality of Gramitherm®
Why choose bio-based grass fibre insulation?
Why choose bio-based grass fibre insulation?
Unlike synthetic or mineral insulation, grass absorbs CO₂ as it grows, making it a particularly sustainable and eco-friendly solution. Grass fibre also has excellent natural thermal and acoustic insulation properties, offering optimal indoor comfort.
What sets Gramitherm® apart from other insulation materials?
What sets Gramitherm® apart from other insulation materials?
Gramitherm® stands out in several key ways:
• Negative carbon footprint: Its production stores more CO₂ than it emits, actively reducing the carbon footprint.
• Moisture regulation: Its fibrous structure naturally absorbs and releases moisture.
• Acoustic comfort: Excellent noise absorption makes it ideal for soundproofing.
• Easy to install: Lightweight and flexible, it can be cut and installed easily without irritating dust or toxic substances.
How is Gramitherm® higher quality than other insulations?
How is Gramitherm® higher quality than other insulations?
Gramitherm® delivers a unique blend of technical and environmental performance:
• Healthy material: Free of harmful or irritating substances, unlike some mineral or synthetic insulation.
• Durability: Long-lasting performance with no sagging or premature degradation.
• Eco-design: Low-energy, environmentally responsible production.
• Certified quality: Complies with current standards and has been independently tested for reliability.
What are its thermal performance values?
What are its thermal performance values?
Gramitherm® insulates against both cold and summer heat with a thermal conductivity (Lambda) of 0.041 W/m.K.
What is its acoustic performance?
What is its acoustic performance?
Gramitherm® absorbs airborne noise for a peaceful, comfortable space. It is not designed to block impact noise.
Is Gramitherm® sensitive to humidity?
Is Gramitherm® sensitive to humidity?
Gramitherm® regulates moisture: 1m² of 100mm thick panel can absorb up to 4.6 litres of water and release it in a dry atmosphere.
What is the heat capacity?
What is the heat capacity?
Specific heat capacity: 2232 J/kg.K
What is Gramitherm®'s fire resistance?
What is Gramitherm®'s fire resistance?
According to EN ISO 13501-1:2018, Gramitherm® meets Euroclass E fire resistance standards. In case of fire, the insulation won’t spread flames and emits non-toxic smoke, allowing for safe firefighter intervention.
Insulation principles
What are the possible applications?
What are the possible applications?
Gramitherm® can be used for a wide range of new builds or renovations: walls, partitions, attics, roofs, floors, and ceilings. It’s perfect for wood construction and eco-projects requiring both thermal and acoustic comfort while reducing environmental impact.
Are membranes necessary?
Are membranes necessary?
Yes. To maintain long-term performance, membranes are essential:
• Vapour control membrane (warm side): Ensures airtightness to prevent heat loss and manages vapour diffusion.
• Rain barrier membrane (cold side): Ensures protection against wind and water and must be vapour-permeable. Airflow through the insulation can reduce its thermal capacity by up to 75%.
The insulation panel
What type of grass is used and where does it come from?
What type of grass is used and where does it come from?
The grass used is non-agricultural and fast-growing, sourced from roadsides, canals, airports, and wetland maintenance areas. It doesn’t require farmland, irrigation, or animal feed.
What happens to Gramitherm® waste during production or on site?
What happens to Gramitherm® waste during production or on site?
It is recycled! Cut-offs during production are reintegrated into the manufacturing process. Offcuts from construction sites or panels at the end of their life are also collected and reused.
What is the panel made of?
What is the panel made of?
Composition: 70% grass fibre, 20% recycled jute fibre (e.g. coffee/cocoa sacks), 10% recycled synthetic binder fibres.
What are the panel dimensions?
What are the panel dimensions?
Dimensions: 1200mm x 600mm or 1200mm x 450mm. Thicknesses: from 45mm to 220mm (12 variants).
How is it installed?
How is it installed?
Gramitherm® is easy to install, requiring no gloves or masks. Its semi-rigid form allows compression during placement between framing. Once released, it expands to fit and self-locks without glue or fasteners.
Carbon footprint
How does Gramitherm® achieve a negative carbon footprint?
How does Gramitherm® achieve a negative carbon footprint?
Grass, our raw material, absorbs large quantities of CO₂. Combined with low-energy fibre processing and panel manufacturing, the result is a negative carbon balance: 1 kg of Gramitherm® stores 1.5 kg of CO₂-eq.
Is the carbon footprint certified?
Is the carbon footprint certified?
Yes. The negative footprint is verified via FDES (INIES database) and EPD (TOTEM Belgium). For example: 1m² of 100mm panel stores 5.01 kg of CO₂-eq during production.
